Bits & Pieces.

Well we hope that the title of the page sums it up. We will try and list information that does not fall into any particular category. Should we have a recurring theme then we will endeavour (time permitting) to add a relevant page.

Nikon D300 SLR Camera Body
Nikon 18-105mm  3.5-4.5g ED DX Standard Zoom Lens with VR (to replace broken 18-70 mm).

Nikon p50 8.1 Mega-pixel Coolpix Camera (A “shove in the pocket/handbag” camera  with some superb specifications)

Sony DCR-HC45 Handycam

Assorted Storage cards, spare batteries etc for each and a multitude of cables (why can’t they standardise them?)

We just hope we can take photographs of a high calibre and do justice to the equipment we are taking with us.

Sony Laptop VGN-C1S which we have bought for it’s compactness and light(ish) weight.

Lacie rugged “all terrain” external 120gb drive. We will use this to backup our data and files and to download our photographs to.

Garmin Nuvi 660FM SatNav with mapping on sd cards for the USA & Australia. (I am sure this will not make Jenny’s map reading skills redundant as she is so good at it)

Lonely Planet book of California and Nevada.

Lonely Planet book of New Zealand.

Complete set of Lonely Planet books for Australia

These have been our “bibles” when we have been making decisions on our itinerary.

We will also purchase camping books for both New Zealand and Australia which show the “free” camp sites you can use in both places. This is encouraged in some areas of the country’s especially New Zealand. Not like the UK  where owning a Motorhome seems to be discouraged by local councils, being obstructive with parking limitations and height barriers. Short-sightedness as they don’t realise that it can increase the business of the local community (whoops! mustn’t get political).

With our interest in birds we shall take the “Field Guide to Birds of Australia” by Samson & Day

Jenny has suggested a field guide to venomous snakes but we don’t intend to get that close to identify them. We hope!!!

We have both been on a First Aid Course albeit that Jenny’s was more of a “recap” as she had been on one before. We have put together a comprehensive “First Aid Kit” hoping obviously that we never have cause to use it. But as they say “better to be safe than sorry”. We also have a very useful first aid book which should provide some “bedtime” reading. NOT!

A Christmas present from our children Rhiain and Michael and respective partners Jon and Sharon was a Nintendo DS lite with a Dr Kawashima Brain Training Programme!!!!! What are they trying to say???????. It suggests at the present time my brain is aged 78 and Jenny’s brain 53. Still, it’s probably is the only way I will be a “sugar daddy”. It will we be very useful for those waiting times in airports etc. AND  we can just imagine it now, a warm summers evening, relaxing, reclining in our chairs outside the Motorhome, listening to the birds and wildlife, with a bottle of wine or a “tinny,” cooking snags (sausages) on the barbie, watching the sun go down over the horizon, DOING BLOODY BRAIN TRAINING TESTS!

Postscipt to the above

Our "informant" in New Zealand tells us that "tinny" in New Zealand is completely different from "tinny" in Australia. We were thinking of the Australian "tinny", honest! No, we don't mean a tin boat. Think we'll stick to Etonian English in future!
